Air Brush Pump

air brush pump
How do I make my Airbrush paint apply in a very small, delicate stream?

I have a fairly inexpensive Airbrush “air pump” that comes with an Airbrush attachment to spray the paint out. I can get it to paint without any problem. However, I’m trying to touch up oil paintings by adding tiny soft shadows and highlights. The Airbrush is spraying a stream that is much too wide and heavy with paint. Do I need to buy a new Airbrush attachment? Do I need to buy a completely new pump and Airbrush? (I’d think if it were powerful enough for the large stream it could handle the small stream.) I can go to an art store and buy anything I need, but I need to know what I should be asking a sales person. It’s possible I just need to buy some sort of Air Brush attachment that mists out paint instead of blasting it out.

it would be helpful to know your Airbrush brand and model. some Airbrushes come with multiple nozzles but most do not. something you can do to get the effect that you are trying to achieve is to thin out your medium a lot. then lower your air presure really low then that way you can get as fine a line that is possible with the Airbrush that you have. some models also have different needles that you can switch out to get thinner lines.
