help! how do I paint fabric or t-shirt?

Hi!
I want to hand paint shirts for christmas presents. Can I use regular acrylic paint, or do i have to use special fabric paint? maybe there is something I can mix with acrylic to make it stick? I was also considering air brushing them. Any ideas, tips or knowledge on doing this would be great.
thanks!

I use Fabric Paints, they come in a very good range of colours, from most Craft, and even DIY shops (usually cheaper at DIY shops I have found).

Easiest way to do a t-shirt was to get some large pieces of Cardboard, and cut them to T-shirt shape, they hold the fabric, let air to the back of the paint, and allow you to move the shirts.

Word of warning, you need lots of flat spaces to put the shirts to dry, that are free from small children and cats etc.
