make up art
Taking up art a-level course with no art GCSE, how big should I make my portfolio?

As I didn’t do art at GCSE level, it is required that I submit a portfolio of work in order to be legible for the art course.
I was just wondering if any of you have done this before, or if you could make a reasonable assumption as to how many drawings/paintings/etc I’d need to submit? Would I need to show all the different techniques I can do, or can I just submit my best pieces/areas of art that I’m best in?

I think you need your best pieces plus prep work (ideas, sketches, trials with paper/colour/medium). And the prep work can always be faked (I had to do this). Plus a good selection of the techniques you’ve mastered with notes. Not sure about the amount. I only had a ‘wadge’ and didn’t get around to counting the individual items.

From Simply Neutral to Avant Garde!!
